Ikaray is a sculptural object, that is dedicated to the craft of perfume creation. With it’s manifold drawers and shelves to store and display tools and raw materials, a worktop and spaces to display, Ikaray is an inviting workplace for a perfumer.The layerd sensuality of scent is represented by the different shapes and gestures of IKARAY. Various ARPA HPL materials, oak wood and different metals with all their different textures and colors were used to capture the refinement of perfume. PeLiDesign created IKARAY to inspire both, the public and the perfumer who is creating on the spot. The combination of shape and material evokes a visual, tactile and fragrant experience.

Since years PeLi is using a Japanese saw in his workshop with a detachable blade called Kataba.

This fine saw as well as the Japanese tradition of precision craftsmanship became the inspiration for the KATABA table.

Starting with ARPA HPL plate material for the mechanical parts and the tabletop and European Oak wood for the legs, PeLiDesign developed this ingenious table.

The legs of the table are easily attachable (and detachable) through an intuitive connecting system (kind of a next level click-system).

The beauty of construction, the function and the combination of the materials make the table special.

Oranienbaum Summer Exposition

In the summer of 2012, Oranienbaum Palace will be hosting an exhibition of contemporary Dutch Design and fashion in combination with historical artefacts from the Dutch Royal Archives. Built for Henriette Catharina, Princess of Anhalt-Dessau, Oranienbaum is part of the heritage of the House of Orange-Nassau. With a major conservation and refurbishment process nearing completion, the palace and its park have been restored to their former grandeur.

The exhibition is curated by studio Uniquole. The opening will be on the 25th (on invitation) by Queen Beatrix of the Netherland and the German federal president Gauck.

The UnBearable champagne cooler by PeLiDesign will be part of the Grand Summer Exhibition ‘Dutch Design – Huis van Oranje’ Oranienbaum Palace, April 26th 2012 till September 30th 2012

KATABA table at Ventura Lambrate

PeLiDesign presents the KATABA table, made of ARPA HPL material and natural wood. This unconventional table enchants with a smart connecting system and a refined aesthetic.

Also on show will be the J’Adoube chessboard, the CHRONOS time tool, the UnBearable champagne cooler and a Surprise.

The initial 3 champagne coolers were made in the summer of 2011. We started to cast wax plates which we then bent and welded. From these wax plates we produced the buckets…they were then transformed by me so they have the ripped open handles…

A couple of weeks later sill Brink a skilled bronze caster took over to make lost wax molds and with the casting I helped again.

But now the real work started. because we had to sand the inside of the coolers…that was very laborious we started with sanding paper grad 100 and worked up until paper 800…then we polished it with several steps of hand polishing until we arrived at a mirror surface…

The outside is oxidized. In- and outside is preserved with a thin wax layer.

Chess against a grandmaster

On January the 7th 2012 I had the honor of being invited to Berlin by Archi Galentz of interiorDAsein and Pascal Johanssen of gallery Johanssen for a chess match against grandmaster Levon Aronian .
I was welcomed for the celebration of the Armenian Christmas. Our host Archi poured us some tasty Armenian Congnac so it was somewhat more bearable that Levon finished me off in 4,5 minutes…he loved the chessboard though…we gave it to him as a present.
