J’adoube
Chess boards and figures are a very classical thing. With lots of adornment around the figures and a somewhat 19th century appearance according to the world standard – the “New Staunton” chess board…
But the rules of the world chess federation, FIDE, are only an outline denominating the size relationship of the pieces and the dimensions of the (tournament) board.
So, I adjust.
The board and all the pieces are made of Naturalia, an HPL material by ARPA Industriale. The pieces and the board have been designed to capture the essence of the individual chess piece and to simplify the production process (CNC milling).
Modern sculpture, namely Constantin Brancusi’s fish inspired me greatly.
The case is made of bonded leather, a sustainable material using left over leather fibers and natural latex.
The “J’adoube” chessboard was designed and produced for Broadview Holding B.V.
